Universal Contracting served as the General Contractor for the $4.4 million renovation of the McKie Recreation and Aquatic Center, completed in the spring of 2012. The scope of work modernized and expanded the community recreation facility to better serve local residents with enhanced recreational and aquatic amenities.
The renovation involved selective demolition, installation of new foundations, slab on grade, and slab on metal deck. Structural steel framing and masonry partition construction supported new functional spaces, and a structural channel glass curtain wall enhanced the building exterior. Interior finishes and landscaping were also part of the overall scope.
Key features of the project included:
- Six-lane competition pool with diving well
- New locker rooms and control booth
- 4,000-square-foot sprayground with 20 water features including two aqua domes and a water jelly
- Playground area and various pool/site accessories
- Underground stormwater storage system with 60-inch diameter pipes holding over 11,000 cubic feet of water
