Description: The addition and renovation of Bellarmine Chapel required a thoughtful balance of modern architectural enhancements and the chapel’s sacred character. Universal served as Construction Manager, delivering both an expanded exterior and a refined interior while maintaining the spiritual integrity of the space. Despite 24 inches of snow leading up to Christmas mass, the project was completed on time in December 2004. Key components of the project included:
- Curved concrete foundation walls for the exterior addition
- New curtain wall system with all-glass entrance doors
- Precast concrete decorative entrance feature
- Cast bronze IHS sunburst art at the chapel entry
- Finished interior millwork throughout the worship space
- Installation of drywall partitions to define functional areas
- Tile flooring for a durable, timeless finish
- Decorative ceiling bulkheads to enhance aesthetics and acoustics
- Acoustic ceiling system for improved sound quality
- Custom marble and stone baptismal font
Universal’s careful coordination and commitment to quality resulted in a beautifully transformed chapel that honors both tradition and modern design, creating a welcoming and enduring space for worship and reflection.
