Universal Contracting served as the General Contractor for the construction of the Ezzard Charles Statue locat-
ed in Laurel Park, now known as Ezzard Charles Park, in Cincinnati’s West End. The project created a permanent civic landmark honoring the legacy of boxing legend Ezzard Charles, also known as the “Cincinnati Cobra.”
The scope of work included construction of a new plaza featuring exposed aggregate concrete with a buff finish, along with recessed lighting integrated into the concrete to illuminate the statue and enhance visibility during evening hours.
After more than four years of planning and sculpting, the statue was officially unveiled on September 30, 2022, during the community celebration “Ezz Fest.” The completed project reflects Universal’s ability to deliver high-quality civic spaces that blend craftsmanship, durability, and community significance.
