Description:
The renovation and expansion of the Robert “Sonny” Hill Community Center in Middletown delivered a fully upgraded facility complete with new program spaces, enhanced services, and expanded recreational amenities. Universal served as the Construction Manager, overseeing exterior improvements, targeted interior renovations, and two major additions—a 4,000 SF Family Services wing and a 14,000 SF gymnasium featuring a stage and full locker room facilities. Key components of the project included:
- New masonry construction for both additions
- Structural steel installation
- Structural concrete and slab-on-grade work
- Roofing systems for the existing building and expansions
- Wood gym flooring and integrated gym equipment
- Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems
- Comprehensive sitework
- Interior and exterior finish upgrades
- Landscaping improvements to unify the expanded campus
The project reached completion on schedule after an 18-month construction period, delivering an upgraded
and expanded community resource with an estimated project cost of $5.9 million. The enhanced facility now supports a wider range of family, recreational, and community programming.
